Claude Monet is one of the most famous and influential French artists of the late 19th century. He was born in Paris, France on November 14, 1840. Monet's early work, which includes landscapes and still lifes, was largely of an academic style. However, in 1874, he met artist Camille Pissarro and began painting in a more impressionistic style. Monet was the co-founder of the Impressionist movement.
