Claude Monet was a famous French painter and one of the founders of Impressionism. He was born in Paris in 1840 and spent his early years painting in the countryside. He became a full-time artist in 1859 and exhibited for the first time in 1861. His work is recognizable by its loose brushstrokes, and many of his paintings depict natural scenes. He is most famous for his series of paintings of the same location at different times of the day, called "The Water Lilies."
