Claude Monet is a well-known artist who is most well-known for his paintings of landscapes. Monet was born in Paris, France in 1840. He lived a life of relative luxury as the son of a wealthy family. Monet studied art and became a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1859. He traveled to Italy and studied the works of the Renaissance masters. Monet returned to France and began painting outdoors. He is most well-known for his series of paintings of the water lilies pond at Giverny.
